From The Pastor's Desk.....
As we have journeyed this season of Lent with Christ, our mid-week series focused on lament.
I deeply appreciated your participation in these mid week services and sharing your thoughts and experiences, which enriched our time together as a community of faith. Thank you.
I write this article as we approach Holy Week and hear Christ’s own lament from the cross:
o “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34b)
o “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:32a)
As fully divine and fully human, Jesus understood humankind’s deep woundedness and grief and continues to walk with us in our times of joy and our times of need. In Jesus’ own laments, we hear anguish as well as deep grace. Even in these moments of suffering, Jesus points towards God, our Creator, teaching us that our Father in heaven listens, hears the cries of God’s people, and responds to our cries.
God responds to our laments with compassion, grace, and love in and through Jesus’ life, death and resurrec-tion. As you read this article, we will have celebrated Easter with the joyous refrain, “Alleluia! He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!”
This joyous refrain is even more precious after having journeyed with Jesus to the cross and amidst our own laments and sorrow. The people of God are not mired in death and sorrow. Rather, the people of God seek God and God’s guidance, love, and compassion in these times within our lives and give thanks to the Lord for hearing and responding to our need.
Jesus is…
our hope!
our light!
our life!
our truth!
our salvation!
May our community of faith be a faithful witness to Jesus and a steadfast companion to one another as we live out St. John’s mission statement “to be a welcoming, growing, and serving community of faith, cen-tered around God’s Word and the Sacraments. We seek to provide fellowship, support, and a place to begin and nurture a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.”
In the peace of Christ,
Pastor Cheryl

Devotion:
The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks..
Luke 6:45
Thought of the day:
Words we speak are always a reflection of our hearts or the state of our minds. The things we choose to dwell on will affect the mindset we choose to base our life decisions and actions on. If we are focused on the right things, it will flow from our mouths. If we dwell on negative things that bring no life, dead things will flow from the words we speak. This is why we need to be mindful of what we feed our minds which will formulate our beliefs and convictions. If we choose to gossip or speak untruths, we will not be profitable to anyone. May our words be rooted in the word of God so that we speak positive and lovingly to give life and restoration to those who need it.
Prayer:
Father, we thank you for saving us from our prideful and destructive ways. Your power and grace are all we need. Guard our hearts against pride so that we may glorify You. Teach us to lean on Your wisdom and power so we remain in step with Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
